-Tallahassee Adventure

While "Naked Tango" was being shown at the Tallahassee Movie Society theatre, 6 dancers from Gainesville were stranded on the side of the highway, dealing with a small cascade of automobile malfunctions.  A number of drivers noticed the ladies in evening dress and stopped on the shoulder of the road to help us, including a pickup driver from Pensacola, a trucker from Texas, a sherif on vacation, and Manatee County state trooper by the name of Old Bill.  Bill told Galina that chatting with us was the most fun thing he had done while on duty in a long time.

The trip had a most enjoyable ending, as the automobile conspired with our Tallahassee tango dancing friends to create a very happy twist to our adventure.  First, Deborah drove 45 miles to rescue us.  We made it in time for some nice dancing with our Tallahassee friends at the movie theatre, where Thuy received great compliments for her dancing, after she danced with Alberto Paz and Gordon.  It turned out that the night was only getting started.  It was continued at the house of David and Hilda, where we watched 2 wonderful tango documentary movies, while David raided his pantry and donned his chef's hat to whip up various delicious anti-pastos.

We spent the night in our friends' guest rooms and re-assembled the next morning for breakfast.  It was decided that in order to improve life, it helps to have a large group of bantering tango dancers to take over a restaurant at breakfast time!  This is the reason that many of us are looking for the next opportunity for a similar Gainesville-Tallahassee "tango exchange."  A good number of Tallahassee folks will come down to Gainesville on the weekend of September 9th for Jan and Ana's Farewell Party!

By the way, "Naked Tango" is on the shortlist of movies to be shown at Ruth's TyT Film Salon.

-Sept 09: Jan and Ana's Farewell Party...

Yes it is true: Jan is leaving Gainesville in September.  He will change his status from "our teacher" to that of "TyT #2 itinerant teacher."  It's your loss, Jan!!!

A dozen or so dancers from Tallahassee and Jacksonville combined insist on participating in the Farewell Party.  No time for being sad: we will give Jan and Ana a good send-off.  First we will have a big party at Thuy's house on Saturday, Sept 09.  The second, FINAL, FINAL stage of the farewell will be a special TyT farewell to Jan Milonga on Sunday, Sept. 10.  Mark your calendars and stay tuned for details.  You don't want to miss this!!!
