-Sunday's Milonga

It was great to see everybody dance at the "mothers day milonga."  We saw a relatively small turnout, but with perfect 50/50 male-female ratio.  Congratulations to newcomer Michael, who had the good sense to take his mother to the milonga!

The Sunday Milonga will be on as scheduled:
7:45pm-8:45pm: lesson for intermediate dancers w/ Jan and for beginners w/ Chut and David
8:45pm-11:30pm: general dancing.
Location: Unified Training Center, at the corner of sw 8th street and University
Admission fee: usd 10.00 paid at the door--refreshment and sweets included

Those who don't  wish to take the  lessons can come anytime, there is plenty of room to dance without interfering w/ the lessons.

-Leia's hours and fees

Registration forms will be published this Saturday.  The fee structure will be as follows:
$20 per class if you take one or 2 classes only
$ 15 per class if you take 3 or more classes

-A Dear Friend Passes

Ed Carroll, husband of Thuy who has been our gracious hostess of the weekly Tango Milonga for quite sometime,  passed away two days ago.  His Orbituary was in yesterday's paper.
Viewing is on Thursday from 6pm-8pm @Forrest Meadow Funeral Home
 725 NW23rd Avenue
Funeral Service is held at Holy Faith Church (on nw 43rd and University) at 9:30am on Friday 5/19
We will miss Ed's brightness and wonderful good nature, and it will take a while to get used to the fact that he is no longer with us.

- Blog: an Artists' Struggle

Video 3 is up, and we find our "man off the street" Henk in lesson 6.  The blog shows him doing a molinette!  See the blog at http://tyt-mots.blogspot.com/ .

Henk's "street" is in Amsterdam, where he is a practicing architect.  The fact that he is an artist explains why he is able to find clear words to describe the struggle to learn tango--a struggle that engages a whole person, mind and body.  An exerpt from Henk's latest commentary:
"I'm trying to not just go through the motion, but understand what it is. Jan was helping a lot with that. What I mean is I try to listen to the music and to dance as though it is part of that music, which is very hard!"
Read Henk's insightful comment about learning tango, and his artistic appreciation of the molinette figure at http://tyt-mots.blogspot.com/ .

-Why is Art Important?

Our own Jan Marzuk developed his dancing by asking himself constantly: "what are the things an ideal man would do?" and "what would an ideal man look like?"  Now when you see him dance, this is his answer to those questions.

The human mind can operate only by making abstractions, asking questions and answering them.  The role of art is to anchor your mind's abstractions firmly into existence, by giving you a far-reaching overview, and to celebrate the importance of your own life and your own consciousness.

We are fortunate to have in Tango y Té another artist, somebody who, through her work, presents us with an abstract view of existence, through the consistent development of her own themes.  The next section of this newsletter is an invitation to view this artist's work.

-Irene Zolotukhin: a Portrait of the Artist

Irene Zolotukhin did a great job composing our website's picture gallery.  This just gave us only a small hint of the talent she has previously developed in her photography.  Now that talent is on full display --we would like you to share in this dicovery by viewing a selection of her work contained in the "Portrait of the Artist" pages starting at http://www.tangoyte.com/BW/portrait.htm .

-Tallahassee Tango Exchange

A few of us are going to try and attend the "Floorcraft and Musicality" mini-residency of Alberto Paz and Valorie on the weekend of 10 June.  We have to arrange it so we will be back in time in Gainesville on Saturday to accomodate those of us who are planning to attend Ruth's first Tango Movie Salon.
