Mimi: What Does "POSTURE" Mean?

"La Postura," you will hear the term many times from Mimi, and it is indeed one of the principal concepts of Mimi's teaching.

Posture is much more than an attractive and comfortable way of standing. It is the firmness in one's body that makes possible the relaxation and the fluidity of motion. *Everything* depends on it.

Why do we dance? Presumably, it is because we want to dance with feeling! And the only way to dance with feeling, is to be completely free and relaxed. We need that firmness in our body's axis in order for the free ankle and foot to relax when it brushes the floor (without touching it).

Posture solves everything, for example, having posture also means having "compás" (to dance with a rhythm). Mimi explains this in her interview: . (Mimi's explanation provides the backbone for what I've been saying for a long time: the feeling of cadence comes from the way the body creates an axis and rolls over the axis.)

(By the way, if anybody is interested in doing a precise translation to English of this interview, and of Mimi's other recorded material, please contact me.)
